Having built homes in the past, we were tired of having design and specs being dictated to us by what the builder offered. We didn't want to go to the exorbitant expense of a custom architect and searched for a building designer instead. We came across Mario and the Design Better Buildings team website and were interested in what they offered. It was the best thing we ever did!We came to Mario with some of our ideas, wants and needs and he patiently worked with us over an 11 month period (it took that long because we kept changing our design) to design the home we were after. The block was complex - narrow with a 6m slope from front to rear. Mario managed to design our 3 storey home exactly how we wanted. He assisted throughout the whole process by arranging a site survey initially, followed by design, council approvals and suggesting builders appropriate for the type of house we were wanting to build. Thanks to Mario the tender process was simple, he gathered quotes then discussed them with us to ensure we understood what the builders were offering. The process was very transparent and was surprising to see the potential savings (there was a variance of $100k amongst our quotes - for exactly the same home). Mario has access to multiple builders, some you have not heard of before. We ended up going down that path based on his recommendations and used DASCO, we did not regret it - they were also excellent!.Mario is passionate about what he does and works hard to give you the design you are after within council regulations and the budget you have. He is also very friendly/ approachable and easy going. His fees are very reasonable, particularly given the time and effort he puts in and the savings this process offers over going directly to a commercial builder. We highly recommend Mario and his team, if you choose to go down this path, you will not regret it!
